Sewer Survey
Dear Residents,
The Borough owns and operates the sewer collection, conveyance, and treatment facilities that serve the Borough. The infrastructure is aging and in need of repairs. The system is experiencing high volume discharges during wet weather events, which we refer to as infiltration and inflow. These high volumes have resulted in overloading occurring at the sewage treatment plant.
We are actively pursuing all grants and available funding sources to help assist in financing any projects that need to be completed, but we are only able to address the publicly owned portions of the sewer through these sources. Parts of the system are privately owned, which is why we are sending this survey to our residents. This survey will help to identify possible inflow sources and allow us to advise on the repairs. If we are unable to reduce the flows to acceptable levels, larger and more expensive projects will be required, resulting in significant user rate increases.
We are encouraging everyone to complete and return the survey by July 30th, 2023. If the survey rate is not adequate, we may be required to assess penalties for the failure to return the survey in the future.
This survey was sent out with the Water and Sewer bills in July. If you have misplaced your copy of the survey, a printable copy can be accessed by clicking here.
