Help Freeburg Obtain a Pedestrian Crosswalk
Join us to “Walk Across Market Street!” on Monday, October 2, 10AM-2PM

For many years, residents of Freeburg have appealed to PennDOT to be granted a pedestrian crosswalk on Market Street between the post office and Freeburg Fire Company parking area. The crosswalk would require motorists to yield to pedestrians, slowing Route 35’s through-traffic. If granted permission, Freeburg would install a crosswalk to help everyone, but most importantly, our children and elderly residents, to safely reach the post office, firehouse, community center, park, churches, fairgrounds…or just to enjoy walking around our beautiful town.
This coming Monday, October 2, 2023, we have our final chance to obtain permission for the crosswalk. PennDOT has informed us that engineers will perform a new count of pedestrians crossing Market Street between post office and fire company parking lot. The count will take place from 10AM – 2PM. At least 40 people must walk across the street EACH HOUR for Freeburg to win approval.
If you want to make a real improvement in traffic control and help protect our most vulnerable citizens, please support the effort on Monday, October 2. Please, come “Walk Across Market Street!” on Monday between the hours of 10 and 2.
